Keywords
Do note that on the drop-down arrow next to Phrase, you can select to do a keyword research based on either:
- a phrase typed in the search bar of search engines, or
- a URL typed in the URL bar of search engines
For this tutorial we will focus on phrases only for now and cover an example of URL research in a later post.
Step 3: Enter your first keyword search
Please do take note that you will have exactly 30 searches on this Free Starter package. When you do decide to upgrade to the paid Pro version, your access will open to unlimited keyword searches on the Jaaxy keyword research tool.
For now, these 30 searches will be more than enough to help you find that golden keyword to get your content ranked and before audiences searching for your niche.
For this example, I am interested in cute puppies as a niche. After typing the keyword into the search bar, you will see a list opening up more or less looking like the one below showing all the most searched keywords associated with your keyword entered.
The five metrics (Avg, Traffic, QSR, KQI and SEO) given on each keyword, will give you vital information to help you make an informed decision in choosing a keyword that will give you the best possible ranking.
Avg
The keyword cute puppies, shows it currently has an average number of 33,779 searches per month on search engines. From the Avg, we can see there is obviously great interest from audiences on this topic with these keywords showing promising interest on the Google search engine. I would advise however to try find a niche within cute puppies that may be more specific. Cute puppies is a very broad niche.
If you really want to add value to your audience with your content, it is always helpful to try to be as specific as possible as to what the audience you are writing to, are really looking for. This is where the sub-niche becomes important. A sub-niche is about finding a more specific niche that provides something specific people are looking for within the main niche.
Examples of sub-niches may be “pictures of cute puppies” or “cute puppy videos“. Immediately you will see the audiences growing smaller for sub-niches because these groups of individuals are searching for something more specific under the broader “cute puppies” niche.
This is where longtail keywords come to play and become more important in defining your niche to a more detailed sub-niche. Longtail keywords are keywords containing more information that caters for an audience in search for something very specific but still within the broad main niche.
In the example above, “pictures of cute puppies” have an average of 499 searches per month while “cute puppy videos” have an average of 1,251 searches per month.
Order Keyword List in Numerical Order
If you want to see the list of keywords displayed in numerical order from most average searches per month to least averaged searches per month, you simply click on the arrow below the Avg metric.
And the Average monthly searches of keywords are displayed in numerical order from most searched to least searched keyword. By clicking on it again, the list is reversed to display from least average searches to most average searches per month.
By clicking on it again, the list is reversed to display from least average searches to most average searches per month.
In the same way if you want to see the keywords that would give the highest amount of traffic to your website ranking on first page, you can do the same with the Traffic metric by clicking on the arrow below it. The same ytou can do with each of the metrics, QSR, KQI and SEO.
Traffic
The traffic metric is an average estimation of the number of traffic or visits you can expect to your website if you achieve first page ranking in the Search Engines for your these specific keywords.
In the above example, if you rank on first page with the keywords “pictures of cute puppies“, you can expect on average to get traffic of around 85 visits to your website. If you rank on first page with the keywords “cute puppy videos“, you can expect on average to get traffic of around 213 visits to your site.
There are other factors however that may affect these estimate traffic values, where you may far exceed these values. We will delve into them at a later time. Watch the space!
QSR
The Quoted Search Results (QSR) shows the number of websites ranked top in Google for this exact keyword. The higher the QSR, the greater the competition ranking on first page in Google with these keywords. The higher the QSR, the better and more unique your content needs to be in order to rank above the competition.
As a beginner, it would be advisable to start with keywords with a low QSR. The lower the QSR for a keyword, the higher the chance of your post ranking on first page in Google for that specific keyword. Although a lower QSR may have less average monthly searches and lower traffic to your site, it is good to have a long-term perspective with your site. Being able to rank top on Google search engines for any post on your site, is a good way to start building credibility for your site with Google search engines if your site is still in the early stages of development.
That said, with a certain level of research experience, it is possible for you to improve on existing top-ranking websites to such a measure that you outperform their ranking through simply adding additional value to the audience, than what the top-ranking sites are already providing to their audience. With extra time, effort and the right knowledge applied to improving upon a top-ranking post targeting a certain keyword, it is possible to outperform the competition no matter how high the QSR.
Free Starter vs Enterprise Feature
In the free Starter package of Jaaxy, you will have to manually click on each of the “Get QSR” links below KQI in order to view the QSR and KQI values for each keyword in the list.
When you upgrade to Enterprise, the QSR and KQI values will automatically display along with each keyword in the list as shown below, whenever you perform a keyword search. This is one of the additional features that Enterprise members of Jaaxy can enjoy for a much faster keyword search experience.
KQI
The keyword quality indicator (KQI) is color coded to indicate the quality of a keyword for any marketing campaign such as PPC and SEO:
- Green is Great
- Yellow is OK (Normal)
- Red is Poor
