A Little Background
Most of my life I always tried to play it safe, do the “right” thing I thought was expected of me, never taking any chances, any risks or going outside of the boundaries of safety I have always known. My entry into the world of education, teaching mathematics at schools, further compelled me to conform to a system I just could not conform to, no matter how hard I tried. With all the sleepless nights working tirelessly, I simply found myself emotionally, mentally and physically drained. Financially I was in a rat-race, working around the clock, yet still limited in so many ways, unable to truly experience the freedom I so much desired to do so much more.
Today, I thank the life-altering event of a nervous-breakdown in a stressful job, that was the turning point for me. This was my intervention to finally stop. To stop trying so hard to fit the mold which only left me unfulfilled. To stop the rat-race, trying to please people, living up to others’ standards, beliefs and systems. To stop trying to be someone I am not and finally step into becoming me. I finally had time to re-evaluate the choices I have made which landed me where I was and finally realized that the problem was not the job or environment.
The problem was that I was not doing that single thing I was meant to do, that thing which I knew deep within I was meant to do but never had the courage to start. This place which felt like such a bad, dark place, turned into the best thing that could have ever happened to me. Medicines is not what cured me. All I needed was a change of perspective on life, a moment to finally wake up and see the wonderful truth awaiting us out there. Change is but a simple change of perception away and the right people surrounding you.
I was given the opportunity of a lifetime, to change the course of my life towards something better, something that mattered, that would fulfill me and restore to me that zeal for life again.
